Skin Laxity

Skin laxity occurs when the skin loses its firmness and structure and becomes loose and starts to sag. Primarily, skin laxity occurs due to aging. As you grow older, and elastin, the key components that retain the skin’s firmness and resiliency, are broken down at a more rapid pace and are no longer actively replenished by the body. Premature skin aging can also be triggered and accelerated by other contributing factors, such as:

  • Sun damage
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Pregnancy
  • Genetics
  • Poor lifestyle habits (smoking or drinking alcohol excessively)

The early signs of age-related facial skin laxity typically appear in the lower face, as one begins to notice sagging jowls and loss of jawline definition. In other areas of the body, you see skin laxity after pregnancy or excess weight loss.

SkinTyte II™

It’s an excellent skin laxity treatment that harnesses the benefits of pulsed light technology and selective thermolysis to target loose and sagging skin without discomfort. SkinTyte II™ is a must-try skin laxity treatment if you want to proactively prevent premature aging or restore overall skin quality in the body post-pregnancy.

Ultherapy®

Ultherapy® is the first and the only FDA-cleared and Health Canada-approved non-invasive procedure to non-surgically lift and tighten the skin for aesthetic enhancements. It’s one of the hottest “lunchtime” aesthetic treatments, with over 1.5 million treatments administered in more than 75 countries worldwide. It was awarded as the “Best Non-Surgical Skin Tightener” in New Beauty’s Annual Beauty Choice Awards for seven consecutive years. Ultherapy® uses micro-focused ultrasound energy to create a thermal effect, tightening the skin and stimulating the body’s production, a protein linked to the skin’s elasticity and youthful appearance.

Morpheus8®

Morpheus8® is a treatment targeting improvement in skin laxity and and skin texture. The treatment utilises 2 modalities, microneedling and radiofrequency energy at the same time. This is what makes this treatment so effective.  The treatment begins with a topical anaesthetic that is applied to the area for approximately 45 minutes prior to the treatment to ensure your comfort. The handpiece has a tip that incorporates very fine, gold plated needle tips that release radiofrequency energy from their tip. The tip depth ranges from 1-4 mm deep and can be customized to achieve your treatment goals. The microneedling  remodels while the radiofrequency tightens the skin over time.  A versatile, non-surgical aesthetic procedure that can be applied anywhere in the face and body, Morpheus8® is usually delivered over 3 treatment sessions and can produce remarkable results in treating skin discolouration, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and stretch marks.

Results You Can Expect

Different skin laxity treatments may produce varying results, depending on your condition’s severity and the number of sessions recommended by your aesthetician.

  • SkinTyte II™ can deliver both subtle and significant improvements. After four to six months of treatments, the final results become more apparent when the in the skin begins to rebuild itself.  Treatments can be done 3 to 4 weeks apart.
  • If you want a lift Ultherapy® may be a more suitable skin laxity treatment for you. Usually, a single treatment session is enough to achieve a patient’s desired results. However, your aesthetic doctor may suggest getting follow-up treatments if your skin laxity is moderate to an advanced stage or depending on how swift or sluggish your body builds after being exposed to ultrasound energy.  You may see a slight difference immediately. However, patience is the key as  the final result may take up to 6 months post treatment to fully appreciate.
  • For Morpheus8®, gradual improvements may be noted a few days post the initial treatment. By the three-week mark, you’ll see your skin has considerably tightened and has become more contoured and sculpted compared to prior to treatment. Many of our patients say they notice continuous enhancements even three months after their last Morpheus8® treatment.

The best thing about these skin laxity treatments is that they are only minimally invasive and therefore involve virtually no downtime. You do not have to skip work or clear your social calendar for a few days to make way for recovery.

How Long Do Skin Laxity Treatment Results Last?

As with most aesthetic treatments, results vary from person to person. Generally, the final results from SkinTyte II™ and Ultherapy® can last anywhere from 18 months up to two years. On the other hand, Morpheus8® promises more permanent and long-lasting results.

To maintain tightened skin and well-sculpted features, your aesthetic doctor may recommend getting annual skin laxity treatments to encourage steady production. Sticking to an antioxidant-rich anti-aging skincare regimen, applying broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 50, and following a healthy diet and lifestyle may also help preserve the results of your skin laxity treatments.

Any time we cause a controlled injury with either infrared light, heat, ultrasound lasers or punctures in the skin with needles with all of these different modalities. They all stimulate  and elastin in different levels of the skin.
